Gavin Smith was born on September 4, 1968 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada and learned several card games like rummy and cribbage from his father at a young age. In 1996 he took a job of poker dealer like many others and started his own poker club. In 1998 he became a professional poker player leaving his dealer job. In the same year he made two final tables at World Poker Tour (WPT) in Foxwoods casino and next year won the WPT World Poker Finals.
He bagged the first place in World Poker Finals in 2000 for the Limit 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo game. Also in the same year he finished 4th at U.S. Poker Championship for the same type of game. With 4 first place finishes he has earned $3,319,238 from pokers till date and is one of the most experienced gamblers.
Gavin finished 2nd at 5th event of 38th Annual World Series of Poker, WSOP 2007 with a reward of $155,446 and 4th in the Canadian Open Poker Championship, 2008. He also took part in major charity events as several merchandise at E-Bay and poker sites were auctioned to grow funds for a family.
